According to a statement from the Cabinet on Thursday, the Egyptian government has announced that foreigners applying for residency will now be required to pay fees in hard currency.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has issued a decree stating that foreigners seeking residency for tourism or other purposes must convert the relevant fees from US dollars or any other hard currency to Egyptian pounds through a local bank or a registered foreign exchange company. They must also provide proof of this transaction by submitting an invoice.

Additionally, the decree allows foreigners without valid residencies to have a three-month period to legalize their stay, provided they have an Egyptian host and pay $1,000 in administrative fees
